Summary
The Texas Harris Alzheimer's Research Study began in June of 2005 and resulted in a large, standardized and well-curated research database of 3,670 subjects. The deidentified TARCC archival database includes 14,655 unique visits (an average of four annual visits for each subject), including AD, MCI, and healthy controls. 36% of the study participants were of Hispanic ethnicity. Patients were enrolled in the Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Lubbock areas.

The Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium (TARCC) was established by state law in 1999 and formally funded with a $2 million state appropriation in 2005. Initially comprised of four statewide medical institutions with the goal of improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders through collaborative efforts, the consortium has grown to a membership of ten medical institutions: Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M University Health Science Center, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, University of North Texas Health Science Center, UT Health Science Center San Antonio, UT Austin Dell Medical School, UT Southwestern Medical Center, UT Health Science Center Houston, UT Medical Branch at Galveston, and UT Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. The Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders has provided TARCC consortium member institutions with $43,422,496.83 in research grants since 2005.
